In an instance where your pond water is too dirty to use in the holding tanks, we'll use a combination of mostly fresh water in the tank and check the water’s temperature, chlorine, ammonia levels, and pH balance so your fish can safely adjust and get acclimated to their new surroundings. Going from drastically different water can be a shock to your fish, so we try to minimize that, making the transition as comfortable as possible. We’ll use dechlorinator to remove chlorine from tap water, and make it as safe and comfortable for your fish as possible.

While they're waiting for their pond to be cleaned or upgraded, it's important to make sure their new water has plenty of airation during their stay. A pump for the water is a good idea, but one that produces bubbles, especially if you have a lot of fish is strongly recommended. It is also smart to keep an eye on ammonia levels. Fish food in the water as well as fish waste increase ammonia which is dangerous in high levels. The effects are compounded when their water is warm and the pH level is high so finding a shady spot for their temporary holding tank is a best practice.

They will wedge themselves in tight places or even jump out of the water which can lead to injury, illness or even death.
